The Youth And Collegiate Students - 757 Words

Today we see that the work Dodds and others established has allowed organizations, such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) or Athletes in Action (AIA) to develop. These organizations are targeted toward the youth and collegiate students (Mathisen, 1990). The Professional Athletes Organization (PAO) was also founded for professional Christian athletes. This organization provided athletes with resources to help them and their families grow in their faith and become an ambassador for God. Integrating religion into sports has created an environment that has kept the youth from leaving. These young people see the fun that is associated with the Church and get involved in the sporting activities. Modern media outlets has increased the visibility of sporting events and has created the increased popularity of sport. Sporting events is not the only aspect of sport that has seen an increase in visibility. Athletes have also seen their popularity heightened by the spectator’s easy access through the media. This has created a platform for athletes to use. Some take advantage of their platform and do good things with it while for others the spotlight is too much and they fall under the pressure. This rise in exposure has produced an opportunity for athletes like they have never had before. Athletes are seen taking advantage of their situations. Many athletes have foundations or host charity events in the community. Russell Wilson, quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks is a devout Christian and promotes his Christian faith on and off the field. He is known to express his faith on social media and does not shy away from professing his faith when the cameras are on him. In conclusion the motivation behind prayer consists of several components. Prayer is universally used as a coping mechanism. When people are faced with uncertainty they turn to prayer for answers.
